My takeaways:

* Research more about the Design Thinking Process
* "If you don't learn to be alone, you will only learn to be lonely." by Sherry Turkle
* Computer labs should have laptops instead of desktops to allow for mobility
* Have students become an expert on one thing they love and teach it to the class
* Find free resources for teachers such as Hot Wheels
* Find opportunities for students to be involved in the community (Fire department painting)
* Check out Confer APP to help with note taking on the students
* "If you can Google it, why teach it?" by Alec Couros
* Tap into the participatory culture through remixing
* Loads of fake information on the internet (i.e. Wave charging in microwave, drilling a hole on new iPhone for earphone jack) How do you teach students to differentiate what's real and what's not?
* Have students design tweets from classroom using check in worksheets
* Kids updates parents what they are learning in school
* Incorporate more mindful opportunities in the classroom
  • Focusing on only one thing
  • Ability to recognize what you are triggered and knowing what to do about it to return to your self
  • Learning to give thoughtful responses
  • Use the "Just Breathe" video.
* Incorporate more identity projects
  • What makes you unique? What makes you part of a group?
  • Have students create personal mission statements (depict it in artwork)
  • Create identity wall with personal mission statements for each child
* Do more Self Directed Learning
  • Self directed is management of own time, choice in topic, source of information, opportunities for idleness, self assessment, and ability to abandon.
  • Give opportunities to learn what they want to learn
  • Passion Project (What would you be doing if you weren't at school?)
  • Create a makerspace
  • Learning to how to keep learning
* Investigate DIY.org
